Recommended by NZ Consumer Magazine, the STIHL RMA 370 battery powered lawnmower is a tried and tested machine that is ideal for many typical Wellington lawns. With a 37 centimetre cutting width and weighing in at only 12kg (excluding battery) the RMA 370 is the lightest and most compact in the STIHL lawnmower range.
The RMA 370 can be easily be carried up stairways, manoeuvred in small areas and stored on shelving - making it ideal for small or terraced gardens where space and storage is a premium. The lightweight mower and has easy lift handles too - making the mower popular with the elderly, or people with back injuries.
In built up areas noise pollution is now becoming an increasing concern, so the quiet electric motor is very neighbour friendly. As well as having 6 height settings from 17 to 70 mm the mower can be fitted with a mulch kit – solving any clipping disposal problems, and returning valuable nutrients into the soil.
Powered by the STIHL AP300 lithium-ion battery and a high performance brushless EC motor, the RMA 370 is capable of tackling lawns up to 370 square metres on a single charge. Using the mower is child’s play; starting involves the press of a button and holding the handle, whilst the plastic body means the mower catches grass be it wet or dry very well.
STIHL RMA 410
Also recommended by NZ Consumer Magazine, the STIHL RMA 410 battery lawnmower is an ideal machine for the average suburban lawn. With a wider 41 cm cut, and more powerful EC motor than the RMA 370, this machine is capable of mowing up to 400 square metres on a single charge.
The mower is extremely comfortable to operate with a very sturdy and adjustable MONO handle (which comes in very handy when manoeuvring around obstacles such as fruit trees).
The RMA 410 is a low maintenance lawnmower. There is no need to wear earmuffs, less servicing, no oil requirement, and no trips to the service station for fuel – making the mower extremely cost competitive when compared with petrol mowers.
The RMA 410 is a fantastic option for mowing on steep slopes too. Not only because if its lightness, but more importantly because there is no oil sump and associated risk of engine damage - that can occur in most modern petrol mowers.
STIHL RMA 510
The newly released (Autumn 2017) STIHL RMA 510 lawnmower is the largest in the stable of STIHL battery mowers.
The steel body machine has a mowing width of 51cm, room to hold two AP300 lithium-ion batteries, and a 70 litre fabric catcher – making the mower ideal for larger residential sections and lawnmowing contractors. The RMA 510 has 7 cut height options and comes standard with options to either catch, side discharge, or mulch making the machine highly versatile for lawns of varying height. The extra-large wheels also mean the mower will roll well over most ground conditions.
Contractors enjoy the RMA 510 for the fact that at 23.6 kg, it is light relative to petrol mowers of its size (easier to lift on and off transport), the quietness is easy on the neighbours (and the operators) ears, and with two batteries it can handle areas of up to 1000 sqm on one charge.
Like the other RMA battery mowers, the RMA 510 machine runs at the touch of a button and squeeze of the handle – so there are no more dirty rings left on the lawn while you are off emptying the catcher! Once again the mower is low on maintenance, and in turn - less hard on your pocket.
The RMA 510 is a fantastic option for mowing on steep slopes too. Not only because if its weight, but more importantly because there is no oil sump and associated risk of engine damage - that can occur in most modern petrol mowers.
Masport President Lawnmowers
The President range is Masport’s most premium range of lawnmower, and it is exclusively sold by STIHL SHOP. The range includes walk behind and self propelled alloy body mowers from as large as 21” and powered by 190 cc engines (for large gardens or the serious commercial operators) right down to 16.5” steel bodied mowers powered by 125cc engines (for lighter applications).
The range is powered by renowned Briggs and Stratton engines which come with standard two year warranties, or a 4-year warranty in the case of the 850 Commercial series 190cc engine. Steel bodied mowers come with a 4-year warranty on the mower body, while alloy bodies come with a 6-year warranty. All plastic catchers in the President range come with a lifetime warranty. All President alloy mowers have been multi point injection moulded which makes them extremely hard as compared to more traditional alloy mowers which are often made from a gravity fed casting process.
President 5000 AL Combo IC The president 5000 Al is one of the most popular in the range. It has a powerful 190cc Commercial grade engine and a wider 19” alloy body than most standard mowers. Other features that make this mower (and many others in the range) very popular include: Large 8” wheels With dual bearings and adjustable threaded axles. These larger wheels roll smoothly over the ground and minimise tracking. As the wheels become run in they can be easily adjusted or tightened by turning a nut underneath the hub cap.
Wash port Cleaning is simply a matter of telling the mower cool down before plugging in a garden hose and running the mower for 30 seconds – creating a dishwasher like action underneath the mower.
Handle lift system Activated by a foot pedal the handle is easily adjusted to a vertical position, meaning removing and installing the catcher is very easy.
Easy start Starting is a matter of moving the handle mounted throttle lever and pulling the handle mounted starter rope. No leaning down or priming required – reducing the risk of back strain.
Mulching Comes standard with an easily installed mulch plug which enables clippings to be retained in the lawn.
4 Blade disc Quadcut system provides increased air flow which greatly assists catching and mulching performance. The swing back blades also reduce the risk of engine damage if they encounter hard objects.
Compact storage A handy hook is supplied which enabled the catcher to be hung directly off the vertically positioned handle (above the engine). Perfect when space is at a premium.
Dual mow zone A wider body means blades protrude beyond the wheels on both sides of the mower, providing a closer cut against fences, decks and trees etc.
